I'm thinking of hosting a group watch party soon but I'm not sure which movie. I was thinking Monkey King Reborn 2021 or the classic Shanghai animation havoc in heaven... This is how I’m celebrating.
Because 2019 got me deep into everything Nezha and Jianzi can be so personal. This is a post celebrating Oubing (and for galaxy brainers, Bingzha). Here are some crumbs, facts, strong hints and actual canon material for my favourite pair of soul mates (literally).

What and Why is Oubing?

• In my own words: Nezha and Ao Bing pairing. In the 2019 context, ‘you are my only friend’ friends and actual soul mates forced against each other are whole together and care more about their respective other half than anything else.I’m happy to elaborate on details and explain their dynamic completely if asked. watch the movie for full context. i have sources if you need them.

  This tumblr user made a great connection to their parallels. Now that I’ve watched 2003 Nezha completely I can confirm that Dragon Girl IS put forward (kind of..?) I had to squint at first) as a potential ‘love interest’ although they never actually discussed between them and it’s shown to be pretty one sided. Nezha DOES become a better friend to her thank god. It was hurtful to watch her get so sidelined. She deserves the world. Anyway I’ll write up a proper analysis of their interaction and parallels at some point.

Anyway Oubing/Bingzha is real and it’s beautiful.

It’s extremely popular for a reason, I promise.
Don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise.
We all know how the CN government treats anything even remotely lgbtqi+.
Gotta jump through hoops and make sacrifices or get banned.

2019 was a passion project and a homage to all the Nezha content that came before it. For that alone I love it dearly despite it’s flaws. That they changed how Ao Bing and Nezha are in the modern public eye should be celebrated and acknowledged. The effects are still carrying. I can’t wait for the sequel (of a trilogy?) that has already been announced and is currently in production. I’m very excited to see where the director dumpling takes them next.

Ao Bing deserves happiness and Nezha does too.
